We feel that patients receive better care when physicians leverage the latest technology available. Some examples of how we use technology are listed below.
Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy
Total Eye Care employs two types of scanning laser ophthalmoscopes. The Optomap allows for panoramic photography of the back of the eye and The Marco Retinal Thickness Analyzer which is used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the back of the eye (retina).
Marco Retinal Thickness Analyzer
The RTA is the latest generation of high tech ophthalmoscopes. A laser takes a series of 8 to 16 pictures in a 1/2 of a second. The computer pieces these pictures together to give us a 3 dimensional view of the back of the eye. The Retinal Analyzer is very helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and age related macular degeneration.
Optomap
The Optomap was developed by a scientist from Scotland that wanted to find more comfortable way of viewing the back of a patient's eye. Most patients hate to be dilated. The Optomap allows our eye doctors to see approximately 80% of the back of your eye (the ocular fundus) without dilation. The Optomap takes a series photographs in less than 1/4 of a second.
Synergeyes Hybrid Contact Lenses
Synergeyes contact lenses provide an alternative to rigid gas permeable or hard contact lenses. Synergeyes contact lenses are an option for most patients, however they are most often used for patients with keratoconus , treatment of LASIK complications, irregular astigmatism and presbyopia (difficulty seeing at near).
Corneal Topography
A corneal topographer gives detailed shape information of your eye to the doctor. This information is similar to a topographical map that tells a hiker the location and slope of the terrain. A contact lens can be customized using this information. Corneal topography is essential for helping patients with keratoconus, treating LASIK complications and orthokeratology.
Bifocal Contact Lenses
Bifocal contact lenses give patients over 40 the freedom to have simultaneous vision at distance and near. Patients relate to us that one of their greatest frustrations is their inability to easily change focus from near to far. In our experience bifocal contact lenses can usually solve 80% of a patient's near/far problems. Bifocal contact lenses are available as soft daily or extended wear contacts and as gas permeable lenses.
Electronic Medical Records
Electronic medical records allow for better documentation. Computerized medical records are never misfiled and are always legible. Reports are easily generated to referring physicians. Your records are safe. All of our patient's medical records are electronic and are backed up nightly to multiple locations out of state.
